If the name is going to be PE Battery separators (as opposed to "silica separators"), then one should at least say, "UHMWPE" battery separators, for Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene battery separators. UHMWPE makes this product unique:

  • UHMWPE cannot be directly melt processed due to its high chain entanglement.
  • UHMWPE must be plasticized with hydrocarbon process oils and gel-processed.
  • UHMWPE is capable of binding large quantities of filler (e.g., silica).
  • UHMWPE therefore produces tough, free-standing films.

UHMWPE is very resistant to abrasion. It is often used as the polymer of choice in state-of-the-art bone and hip replacement parts. Another well-known use for UHMWPE is in the construction of bullet-proof personal protection armor.

ENTEK International's UHMWPE battery separators are known for their excellent elongation in all three directions: the machine direction, the cross-machine directions and the z-direction (through the separator). Excellent elongation, due to unique and proprietary processing conditions means that it takes more energy to rupture our separators with high points from battery plates. It resists splits and tears from high temperature electrochemical oxidation. That means longer life for your Lead-Acid battery.
